Council approves retention of Cockhill childcare facility serving up to 30 children

Planning permission has been granted for the retention of an existing community pre-school facility in Cockhill, Buncrana.

Donegal County Council has approved an application submitted by St Oran’s Community Preschool, which sought permission to formally retain the existing childcare facility operating within the community centre building at St Oran’s National School.

Planning documents attached to the application stated that the pre-school employs five staff members and caters for up to 30 children. The service provides early years education for children aged between two and six years old.

The Cockhill pre-school operates from 9.30am to 2.30pm, Monday to Friday, with a sessional service also running from 9.30am to 12.30pm each weekday.

The planning authority granted retention permission subject to five conditions. One of the conditions states that vehicular drop-off associated with the childcare facility must take place from the adjacent St Mary’s Church car park.

The council also stipulated that any change to another use of the facility would require a separate grant of planning permission.

A further condition requires that no surface water from the site be permitted to discharge onto the public road, and that measures be taken to ensure that water from the public road does not discharge onto the site.

The council also set opening hours for the premises, stating that they must be confined to between 8am and 6pm, Monday to Friday, unless otherwise agreed in writing with the planning authority.
