The Cove Restaurant near Dunfanaghy is due to close its doors on October 31
A popular Donegal restaurant has been listed for sale weeks after announcing its impending closure.
The Cove Restaurant, in Rock Hill, Dunfanaghy, was listed for sale after its owners, Siobhan Sweeney and Peter Byrne of The Cove Restaurant, made the “bittersweet” online announcement that the business was to close its doors on October 31.
In August, Donegal County Council granted permission for the change of use of The Cove Restaurant from commercial to residential use, and the extension and refurbishment of the existing building to create a terrace of three dwelling houses, with all associated site works and connection to the existing public sewer and utilities.
The property has been advertised on Daft.ie as a “bistro-style restaurant in an amazing location on Donegal's Wild Atlantic Way,” which overlooks Hornhead Pier, Sheephaven Bay, and Hornhead.
It also states that “this property is an excellent investment opportunity with its elegant and relaxed ambience.”
Further features include a ground floor dining area with seating for approximately 20 patrons, and a first floor dining and bar area with seating for approximately 34 patrons, along with outdoor seating for 50 patrons.
The property is a short distance from Dunfanaghy and is within walking distance to Portnablagh Pier.
Earlier in October, an online statement was released by the owners of the former restaurant, which stated: “After 25 wonderful years, the time has come for us to retire and close the doors of our beloved Cove Restaurant.
“Our final day will be October 31, 2026.
“This is a bittersweet announcement for us. Cove Restaurant has been such a huge part of our lives, and it has been a privilege to welcome so many people through our doors over the years.
“We are deeply grateful to all our loyal customers, many of whom returned time and again and became more like friends. Your support, kindness and encouragement have meant more to us than we can ever express.
“Our suppliers and service providers have helped ease our journey throughout the years, and we are extremely thankful to them all.
“We would also like to thank every member of staff who has been part of the Cove family over the past 25 years. Your hard work, warmth and dedication helped make the restaurant the special place it became, and we could not have done it without you.
“It has been an honour to serve our community and visitors to North West Donegal, in beautiful Portnablagh. We leave with countless treasured memories and enormous gratitude for everyone who shared this journey with us.
“Thank you for 25 unforgettable years.”
