Funeral and Vigil details for late Mgr Dick Mahon, former Prior of Lough Derg

Funeral and vigil arrangements have been announced for the former Prior of Lough Derg, Monsignor Richard (Dick) Mohan,

Mgr Mohan died on New Year's Day following a short illness.

Dr Gary Carville announced the sad news on behalf of the Clogher Diocesan Office.

He said: "It is with great sadness that my first duty of 2023 is to let you know of the death earlier today of Monsignor Richard (Dick) Mohan, retired PP of Clones, former Prior of Lough Derg - and for many years the Diocesan Religious Advisor to schools.

"Mgr Dick died in the South West Acute Hospital in Enniskillen this morning following a very short illness, having been taken there from Aghadrumsee yesterday morning.

"May his soul rest in the eternal peace of Christ our Lord and Saviour."

The monsignor served at Prior of Lough Derg from 1991 to 2013 before taking up the role of Parish Priest of Clones. 

Known for his warm welcome to every pilgrim, he will be remembered for striving to maintain the essence of the Lough Derg pilgrimage while overseeing the modernisation of shelter facilities and the upgrade of boats. 

Funeral Arrangements

Mgr Mohan’s remains will be removed to the Sacred Heart Church, Clones on Monday evening, arriving at 7.30pm.

A Vigil of Prayer will take place in the Sacred Heart Church, Clones on Tuesday from 12 Noon until 9pm.

Funeral Mass will take place in the Sacred Heart Church, Clones on Wednesday at 12 Noon with burial afterwards in St Joseph’s Cemetery, in his native Coonian, County Fermanagh.
