Confirmation of the Papal visit to Ireland has been welcomed

News that Pope Francis will visit Ireland in two years time has been welcomed by a spokesperson for the Diocese of Raphoe. 

The Taoiseach Enda Kenny confirmed that the Pope will visit Ireland in August, 2018 following a 23-minute meeting with the Pope in the Vatican earlier today. 

The invitation to Ireland was extended to the Pope by the Irish Catholic Bishops' Conference for the World Meeting of Families in two years time.

Welcoming the news, a spokesperson for the Raphoe Diocese said that the visit will be a "a very positive event for Ireland."
