9th annual Colm Clancy Memorial Walk in Glenveagh next Sunday

The walk will be held in Glenveagh next Sunday, April 8th, a place where Colm spent many happy times.

That time of the year has again arrived to remember Colm Clancy, a native of Srath na Corcra, Derrybeg who tragically died in 2009 as a result of a helicopter accident in Co Kildare.
As in previous years Colm's family have decided to remember him with a Memorial Walk in Glenveagh National Park next Sunday, April 8th. Colm loved Glenveagh and he spent many happy times there. Every year the proceeds of the walk have been donated to charities in Malawi.
Proceeds from the walk will be divided between Ubwino Wa Amayi and Kasina Health Centre in Malawi.Ubwino assists women and girls to remain in education and operates a creche facility where up to 80 children are cared for daily and receive a nourishing meal.
Kasina health centre is operated by the Medical missionaries of Mary and provides cancer screening. HIV and aides clinics and other services in the Kasina district which is several hours away from a full services hospital.
The electricity supply is not reliable and often they have to work by candlelight in addition valuable medical supplies are sometimes due to failure to keep them at the correct temperature.
They are in the process of getting a solar electricity system which should enable them to function better and also save on electricity costs. They have already put funding in place for approximately 80% of the cost and hope to complete the installation this year with our help and the help of some other funders.

* Sunday 8 April will see the 9th annual Colm Clancy Memorial Walk with a pick up at Glenveagh National Park Car park. Assembly is at 11.00 and buses will leave for Gartan to walk into the castle where refreshments will be available.
