During the first two hours of National Slow Down Day, An Garda Síochána and GoSafe have checked the speed of 24,922 vehicles and detected 123 vehicles travelling in excess of the applicable speed limit.
The initiative is running nationwide and will be running up until 7am tomorrow morning, Wednesday.
The initiative is supported by Donegal County Council executive including Road Safety Officer Brian O’Donnell.
The aim of Slow Down day is to remind drivers of the dangers of speeding, to increase compliance with speed limits and act as a deterrent to driving at excessive or inappropriate speed.
