Errigal Cycling Club’s Conor Halvey chalked up his second three-day event win of the season when claiming victory in the O’Leary Stone Kanturk event in Cork at the weekend.

The 15-year-old won the opening stage on Friday and held on thereafter for overall victory by just one point, finishing fifth on day two and runner-up on stage three.

Commenting on his success, mentor, Sean McFadden said Conor has been in good form of late.

“Conor took victory in the three-day event in Drogheda last month and was third in the Burt race which saw him up against A1, A2 and A3 riders,” Sean said.

“Conor’s next target is the Errigal International Youth Tour which take places over the bank holiday weekend in August. This is his last season as a youth rider and he’d really love to do well on home soil,” he added.

Sean explained that Conor, who is part of the four member Irish youth team, is currently on the lookout for a main sponsor.

Meanwhile, Conor’s training partner, Shauna McFadden, who is also in Letterkenny, left yesterday for Denmark where she will compete in a three-day event - the Tour of Himmelfart as a guest rider for Team Rytger.
