Donegal's Mark Coyle lifts President's Cup as Shelbourne cruise home

Mark Coyle skippered Shelbourne to a first-ever President's Cup in their history.

In the annual League of Ireland curtain raiser, Shelbourne ran out comfortable 2-0 winners at Tolka Park against Drogheda United.

Burt native Coyle wore the captain's armband for Damien Duff's Airtricity League Premier Divisions champions against the FI Cup winners.

Harry Wood, who scored the winner against Derry to win the title on the final day of last season, opened the scoring on 28 minutes and former Finn Harps striker Sean Boyd made it two before half-time. Drogheda's Luke Dennison was re-carded nine minutes into the second half for a foul on Mipo Odubeko as the home team won with a bit to spare. 

Shelbourne are home to Derry next Friday in their league opener, while face Drogheda Stephen Kenny's St Patrick's Athletic.
