Donegal footballer Michael Langan has been named on the Electric Ireland Higher Education Rising Stars team of 2019.

The St Michael’s club man played a lead role in Letterkenny IT’s march to Trench Cup success earlier this year.

He has been named at right-half-forward on the team and is the only player from the Trench Cup, the second tier competition, named in the team. All the other players are from teams who competed in the Sigerson Cup, the blue riband competition of third level colleges football.

Sigerson Cup winners UCC top the hours list with six  on the team; St Mary’s, Belfast are next with four, NUI Galway and UCD  have two each and Letterkenny IT one.

Kerry star Sean O’Shea, UCC was named the player of the year.

Michael was presented with his award by GAA President John Horan in Croke Park on Monday.
