Donegal duo strike Spanish gold

Two practitioners of the dynamic art of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu both claimed gold medals when they took part in the Madrid Open tournament on Sunday.

Brian Coyle from Ramelton and Bryan Gorman from Donegal Town were representing the Rilion Gracie Ireland team at the Spanish event and both topped the podium in their respective weight and belt divisions.

Full-time instructor at the Rilion Gracie Academy in Letterkenny, Brian Coyle was competing in the black belt division for the first time since acquiring the rank from Master Rilion Gracie in Miami, Florida in September.

Bryan Gorman, who runs DT Fitness in Donegal Town along with his brother Eddie, competed in in the brown belt division.

Both medals were claimed in the “no-gi” competition, where competitors do not wear the traditional martial arts suit for the competition.
